Security is of utmost importance when you are entering or want to gain access to Military Bases. Patrick Air Force Base is located here in Central Florida where I live. I recently was offered a Supervisor Position and I was over the moon about it. Unfortunately, I lost the opportunity to take the position because I was not thorough, attentive and careful enough to verify having possession of my credentials. Okay, I lost my Driver's License somewhere between getting my Visitor Pass and meeting with my Sponsor to complete my new hire paperwork. I will not go into details concerning my experience because doing so will divert from my true intention. I want to help others avoid a similar experience or situation while accepting responsibility for my actions. Here is what you can do to prevent this from happening to you.

  • Prepare the night before by labeling an envelope with your credential contents such as Driver's License, Vehicle Registration, Insurance Documents, Social Security Card, 1099 Document etc. and place them inside 
  • Before being photographed for your Visitor Pass or immediately thereafter, ask for your documents back
  •  Once you receive your documents, place a check mark on the front of your envelope for each one you have 
  • Place them in the envelope and secure it in your purse or hold it firmly 
  • At Gate Checkpoints repeat this process so that you will not leave any of your credentials behind 

    I hope these tips will help you to move pass the checks and balances of security on Military Bases and into the Leadership Positions and other roles you deserve. Take it from someone who has been through the process. One last tip, bring any letter/disposition from the Courthouse with you when you want to try to enter Military Bases to meet your Sponsor. If you have ever been arrested and do not have these documents, you can be banned from entering a Military Base for up to 18 months. That's all. Kudos....
